Proposition Summary
LEGISLATIVE INITIATIVE AMENDMENT. Amends the Chiropractic Act to require annual renewal of chiropractic licenses during a licensee's month of birth rather than on January 1 of each year. Increases penalties for unlawful practice of chiropractic and violation of the Chiropractic Act. Minimum fine is increased from $50 to $100. Maximum fine is increased from $250 to $750. Possible imprisonment increased from a minimum of 30 days and maximum of 90 days to a maximum of six months without specification of a minimum. Summary of Legislative Analyst's estimate of net state and local government fiscal impact: State Board of Chiropractic Examiners Fund would incur minor one-time costs in 1990-91 to modify automated license renewal system. Increased fines for violation of Chiropractic Act would result in additional revenues to state and local governments.
