Secretary of State No.
212
Description
ELECTIONS. INITIATIVE STATUTORY AMENDMENT. Establishes a single primary election ballot which includes all candidates, regardless of political affiliation. Abolishes nonpartisan ballots. Removes the party affiliation requirement for voting in primaries, including presidential primaries. Requires that the voter registration card inform voters of the above changes. Permits selection of political party convention candidates by voters not affiliated with that party. Sets up procedures for the selection of Republican Convention delegates according to the votes received in each congressional district by each candidate or uncommitted delegation. Changes ballot formats and Republican primary procedures to conform with these changes. Financial impact: Unknown but potentially substantial increase in local government costs.
