Book Review: Gender and Judging
Abstract
In this Book Review, the author analyzes the recently published work Gender and Judging, edited by Ulrike Schultz and Gisela Shaw. He describes the structure and scope of the work and recommends Gender and Judging as an excellent source for the complex and evolving facts and opinions in this area. The author, himself a jurist, suggests that the debate could be reframed to discuss and incorporate beneficial human attributes for which all judges should strive, rather than focusing on the existence or meaning of gender differences. Finally, the author recommends that many of the characteristics described in Gender and Judging as "feminine" should be embraced by all judges.
