Roger Traynor: Teacher, Jurist, and Friend

Abstract

The late Chief Justice Roger Traynor's illustrious career as a law professor and justice of the California Supreme Court spanned more than fifty years. During that career, he significantly influenced the law of California and many other jurisdictions. This Article introduces a series of three Articles examining Justice Traynor's impact on particular areas of law. The Article briefly reviews Justice Traynor's background, his education, and his career as a law professor and state supreme court justice. The Article then suggests some of the reasons for the esteem in which Justice Traynor's work is held and concludes with a tribute to his distinguished legal career.
