Abstract
A multiplicity of courts is one characteristic of an immature court system. From 1849 to the present the California court system has evolved to a relatively advanced stage of judicial civilization. Mr. Blume analytically traces this development and presents the history of the California court system in terms of the debates, political conflicts, and personalities which underlie it.
